Panel Discussion: Defining Pressure: Examining the State of Objects in Contemporary Making
Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Auditorium
Moderator: Robert Gero
Panelists: Lauren Ewing, Michael Rees, Helena Lukasova

This panel will explore the possibility that New Materialism (a body of diverse theories of the agency of matter) offers artists a paradigm of generativity and potentiality that emphasizes experimental material processes expanding beyond mere forming and manipulation of matter. The panel will address what, if any pressures are put on artists when objects and processes are not human-centric, nor about humans developing relations with materials but about how humans as material/objects are entangled and interact with other material/objects.
